Readers
The readers that Shearwell Data Ltd supply are ISO compliant, they will read both technologies available on the market - HDX and FDX B. Readers are linked to the Handheld Stock Recorder for automatic data capture. The reader activates the microchip, which sends its unique number back to the reader. Once the initial link is made between the tag number of the animal and the chip number, the Stock Recorder will display the official tag number of the animal whenever the chip is read.
Our race reader is robust and fully portable. For those with both sheep and cattle this is ideal. Our reader will read a bolus up to 130cm away and complies with ISO standards. Allows fast and efficient reading of any animal identified with an EID device.
The handheld readers are ideal for use in situations where a race would not be appropriate, such as lambing, calving and the initial logging on of devices. These handhelds can also be used for reading microchip implants, and complies with ISO standards.
Shearwell Data Stick Reader - SDL400S

The SDL400S is designed for use in harsh environments. The Bluetooth connection removes the need for wires, making it easy to use. The EID number can be sent directly to a PDA or computer using wireless connection, or stored internally for later download to the office PC if necessary. The reader takes standard or rechargeable AA batteries, which can be easily changed in the field if necessary.
Read Range
The SDL400S is available in a range of lengths from 45cm to 80cm. Read distance will depend on the type of RF device being used, but typically it will be read if it's up to 30cm of the stick reader.
Data Exchange
EID numbers can be transferred directly to PDAs or other data recorders via Bluetooth, such as our Workabout Pro stock recorder
The SDL400S also has built in memory, so that it can be used for creating 'management groups' by reading and storing the EID of all animals in a group. These groups can then have 'movements' or 'treatments' recorded for them as a block using FarmWorks by Shearwell Data.

Allows fast and efficient reading of any animal which has
been given an EID device. The animal is simply scanned and if an EID
device is detected the EID number will be shown on the screen.
This reader can be used with or without a stick antenna (detachable extending
antenna for extra flexibility). The stick antenna increases the range
of the reader from 20cm to 65cm. The Gesreader is useful at lambing/calving
time when a race read would be inappropriate. It is also useful for field
conditions where it is not practical to run the animal through a crush.

Fully configurable power management options give the longest possible life from the internal rechargable batteries. The Gesreader has the capability of reading both FDX-B and HDX transponder devices and is fully certified to ISO 11785.

This reader is fully compatible with the ISO standard 11784/5 and thus reads both HDX and FDX-B transponders (electronic ear tags, boluses and implants). It has a read range of 20cm.
Its use with the Workabout Pro, ensures that data is captured easily and for those wishing to read transponders using a handheld reader it allows information to be collected using only one hand. It is especially useful when recording births or one off events such as movements and treatments when it is impractical to pass the animal through a race to read it with the SDL130 Race Reader. A hand strap can be fitted to the Psion to prevent the unit being dropped accidentally.
The combination of the Integrated Reader and the Workabout Pro offers convenient data collection with the flexibility of Bluetooth connection to link to other Bluetooth units such as weigh heads.

The SDL130 Intelligent Reader has been designed for reading microchips that are housed in ear tags, boluses or implants. It is a dual technology (HDX / FDX B) reader featuring a read range over 130cm. Its ability to read both technologies at equal strength is unparalleled.
