The Role

Shearwell Data Limited provide a range of animal identification systems to farmers world-wide. At the heart of our installations is Farmworks by Shearwell Data Limited, a farm and animal management software package running on the farmers PC. This is augmented by our own hand-held data logging software used by the farmer to gather information whilst out on farm, and web based storage facilities which provides, amongst other features, secure off-site back-up for the farmer.

All of these products are software driven, and due to an expanding work load, Shearwell are looking to recruit an additional developer. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the successful candidate will become involved in all stages of the software development life-cycle, from specification, coding and testing, right through to deployment. Working closely within the existing team of 11 I.T. staff, the successful candidate will be expected to rapidly take on responsibility for their own areas of coding.

The Person

This is an important area of development for the company, so it is important that candidates can demonstrate a sound technical background combined with a high level of motivation. It is important that candidates are well organised, and can demonstrate that they can manage their own time and projects effectively and efficiently. It is also important that you have a flexible approach. It is expected that the successful candidate will be involved in a number of projects within the IT team.

Specific skills required include:

  • Visual Basic 6
  • Visual Basic .NET
  • SQL Database Development

Knowledge of any of the following would be an advantage:

  • Internet Development (HTML, ASP, JavaScript, Web Services, XML)
  • Object Oriented Design, UML
  • Access Database Development
  • Any experience of farming or associated livestock practices

The Package

Pay will be commensurate with skills and experience. 21 days paid holiday. Access to stakeholder pension scheme. Note that the company operates a no-smoking policy on company premises. Due to the location of the company, own transport is a necessity.
