Product History

While shearing sheep in Norway, Richard Webber (Director of Shearwell Data) was impressed with a certain sheep tag that showed a remarkable retention rate. On return to the UK the PAT Aluminium Tag machine was purchased and the company began its production of sheep tags. These tags proved to have an excellent retention rate, were lightweight and therefore suitable for day old lambs, but were also strong and durable.

The company then branched out and purchased a thermal printing machine that printed plastic cattle, sheep and pig tags. With the introduction of double tagging in cattle in 1998, the company stepped up production and introduced a laser printer. This produces a high quality print that does not fade or rub off. Much research has been undertaken into finding quality tags that will provide a good retention rates, the results of which have allowed the company to be confident in offering free replacements for Combi 2000® cattle tags that were purchased from Shearwell Data Ltd since 10/09/99.

Compulsory sheep tagging prompted the company to not only source a cheap plastic sheep/lamb tag, but also to purchase another laser printer to cater for the increased demand.
