The versatile system was designed by people who understand the day-to-day requirements of busy livestock farmers. So whether you simply want to weigh your livestock or measure your animals’ daily liveweight gains (DLWG) to ensure you are on target with your stock’s performance, compare the weight and growth of stock against feed costs, know your best and worst performing animals or simply ensure health treatments are correctly applied according to the animal’s weight, then the ShearWeigh weigh head and app are the tools for you.


The new Shearwell ShearWeigh weigh head is made here in the UK and built for years of reliable service in the harshest of farm environments. Designed by the Shearwell technical team, with input from the farm team, the ShearWeigh ensures that busy livestock farmers can set up easily and quickly. With a 12 hour battery life, the ShearWeigh can go pretty much anywhere, without any reliance on mains electric or a generator.

The rugged ShearWeigh weigh head is mounted on a fully adjustable bracket, so the readout weights are clearly visible from any angle. Weighing an animal is fast and accurate. The ShearWeigh will beep to confirm a weight was read so the animal can be drafted or released.

The ShearWeigh has been trialled on a range of farms and always demonstrated accuracy, speed of read, reliability and excellent value for money.

How is the ShearWeigh weigh head powered?
It can use either a 240 V mains power source or its own internal battery.
How long do I need to charge the battery?
The ShearWeigh should be left to charge for 8 hours before its first use.
How will I know when it is fully charged?
The battery icon on the screen of the ShearWeigh indicates the level of charge.
How long does the battery charge last?
12 hours.
Once turned on, how will I know when the ShearWeigh is ready to weigh?
The ShearWeigh will automatically zero and be ready to weigh
What else do I need to run my ShearWeigh?
To connect to a mobile, you will need to download the ShearWeigh app from either Google Play (Android) or the App Store (Apple)
Is the ShearWeigh app free?
Yes!
Do I need to check for updates?
No – the app on your phone will install automatically when you are in signal or connected to wifi.
What else can the ShearWeigh app do for me?
  • It allows you to link to a Shearwell EID reader to save tag reads and animal weights
  • It enables you to transfer the data in a spreadsheet to your PC

Will the ShearWeigh work with my load bars?
Yes- just go to Settings to see the list of load bars and select the correct load bars.
What units will the ShearWeigh use?
You can select kilograms (kg) or pounds (lb).
How do I calibrate my ShearWeigh?
Use an object of known weight (e.g. a bag of salt or a bag of lamb pellets) to calibrate.
How durable if the ShearWeigh weigh head?
Very – it has an IP67 rating (ingress protection against dust and water).
Can I use the ShearWeigh in poor or fading light?
Yes – it has a bright, easy read display screen.
How do I know when an animal’s weight has been read?
The ShearWeigh will beep when it has locked on a stable weight, then the animal’s tag number and weight can be saved.
Is the ShearWeigh weigh head heavy?
No – it is only 0.9kg.
What are the mounting options?
Once the mounting bracket has been attached, you can choose between the wood or metal rail mount which are provided in the pack.
