Tissue sampling tags for DNA testing (pink vial)

DNA / Genotyping cattle tags are increasingly used by cattle producers and breed associations as a practical way to unlock valuable genetic information. By identifying the genetic potential within your herd, DNA testing can support more informed breeding decisions and help drive genetic progress and long-term profitability.

Shearwell DNA Tags are designed to collect a tissue sample at the same time as the animal is tagged. This means cattle can be identified as part of the usual tagging process, while a tissue sample is collected ready for DNA analysis. The tissue sample is securely captured and sealed as the tag is applied, helping to minimise the risk of contamination. This provides a straightforward and reliable way to collect samples directly at the point of tagging.

The identification details recorded on the tag are also associated with the corresponding tissue sample, helping maintain accurate traceability from the animal through to testing. Once collected, the samples can be submitted for DNA analysis.

The price includes one plastic bag, one addressed envelope for every 10 tags purchased and the relevant Genotyping laboratory paperwork. The envelopes are addressed to the Genotyping lab for you to return your samples in. The cost of the postage to the lab is NOT included. Additional envelopes can be purchased from Shearwell if required.

The previews may not be pixel-perfect! Official animal numbers will be supplied by the ministry during the tag manufacturing process - the official animal numbers shown on tag previews always start at 00001 and are intended to give an indication of the format of the tag, they are not the actual numbers that will be printed on your tags.

For incrementing Management Numbers, the numbers shown on the tag preview are the actual numbers that will be printed on your tags. The first and last tags in the run are shown so you can clearly see what the number range is.

If you would like leading zeros in your management numbers please type them into the start number box e.g. type 00001 to make sure all numbers are 5 digits long.
